Patient education

Patient Education 👩‍🏫

🧐If I have pain, tiredness and fatigue symptoms, I would want to know the cause.

☹️Recently I had a women’s health issue and I knew I was getting anxious to know what was going on❓

🧐 I was given numerous tests and prescriptions which made my symptoms worse.

😩I was told different diagnoses in the matter of 3 – 6 months – this made me more anxious and frustrated.

☹️It is a terrible feeling when your body behaves a certain way and you lack control

🤦🏽‍♀️I did google my symptoms ( embarrassed) it only caused me more frustration

😀Luckily , I did ask questions and they were answered by a healthcare professional who listened and understood my concerns.

😊This incident has increased my empathy .

🙏 I believe after this experience I understand why anyone struggles with the ONE question – What is wrong with ME?”

Patient education by healthcare professionals – is crucial-  It is rightly said –

Each patient carries his own doctor inside him.”—Norman Cousins, Anatomy of an Illness

Patient education conversations include the following –

  • What is the condition?
  • Prevalence
  • Causes
  • Symptoms
  • Diagnosis
  • Treatment /Management

Ultimately it is about empowering the patient-

“what do they think and want to do”

👂When a healthcare professional takes time to explain the issue in simple terms- patient  understands it better and manages their condition even better.

✅When we know what is causing the issue

✅We implement the suggestions given by healthcare professionals
